We were excited to attend the Women in AI Summit 2024 APAC at Microsoft Reactor Sydney today. This event brought together leading minds in Data, Technology, and AI across Australia and the APAC region, showcasing innovative AI solutions in health, education, government, business, and community sectors.
The summit kicked off with an insightful opening keynote on “AI and The Outsiders” by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson from UNSW, setting the tone for a day of profound discussions. Notable speakers included Helen McHugh, ACS President, discussing women in data, tech, and AI, and Dr. Sue Keay emphasises the importance of robotics in Australia.
A highlight was the panel on “From Data to Value,” exploring AI foundation models in healthcare, featuring experts like Xiaomei Wang and Christina C. The discussion on “The Green Algorithm” by Ganna Pogrebna was particularly enlightening, addressing how digital twins and generative AI are reshaping sustainability.
The afternoon sessions were also impactful. Sze Chin (SQ) Lee from ESSE PI delivered a compelling talk on “Navigating the Challenges and Limitations of Implementing Generative AI Projects”, offering valuable insights on making AI accessible. Bruce Bateman, Chair of the WAI APAC Committee, presented on “AIgorithmic Design and Development”, providing insight into value-sensitive AI design. Artak Amirbekyan, PhD, Head of Data, AI and ML at Transurban, shared practical applications of Data Analytics and AI in the transport sector, demonstrating real-world impact.
The day concluded with a forward-thinking panel on “Advancement in Quantum Generative AI Applications” featuring Dr Farina Riaz. Fakhar Zaman, and Eromanga Adermann, PhD, exploring the cutting-edge intersection of quantum computing and AI.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Yan Qian, WAI Australia Ambassador and Deep Learning/Machine Learning Researcher, and Angela Kim, Women in AI APAC Chief and AI Professional, for their outstanding efforts in hosting and organising this event. Their commitment to fostering diversity and innovation in AI is truly commendable. And it was great to meet new friends Sovansorphea Khan, Ly Bui, Fariba Lotfi, Yuji Mao, Feiselia Tan, PhD and Dr Graham Kenny.
To commemorate this significant event, we have harnessed the power of AI creativity. Utilising cutting-edge AI tools such as Suno for music generation and Flexclip for video creation, we produced a compelling video that captures the essence of this memorable summit.
